In response to COVID-19, El Gato Charities was formed in July 2020 to bridge the financial gap necessary to operate as a foster home to cats. El Gato Coffeehouse and El Gato Charities work in tandem with one another. But mostly, it was because El Gato is a truly stand-out cat cafe- a gorgeous space filled with friendly cats and caring people.
Beset with the myriad challenges posed by the pandemic, El Gato emerged with the intention of making the necessary funds to house 14 – 20 foster cats. Thus, El Gato Charities was formed to work in tandem with El Gato Coffeehouse, Houston’s only cat cafe and rescue. For individual visits with cats, children must be over age 5 and 12 is the minimum age for yoga with cats. All childern under 16 must be accompanied by a supervising adult. If you are interested in being one of the first to check out the new location, you'll select sessions in the Cat Studio. We'll continue to offer sessions in our original Cat Cottage location as well.
Visits with cats - Individual sessions are for one person, each person needs a separate individual booking. Private sessions are a group booking covering up to 6 people for 1 hour. Additional guests are welcome for the privates, but will be charged $18/ person upon entry with a max capacity of 20 people. We do host kid birthday parties as a private booking, however, this is only available for ages 9 and over in order to maintain a peaceful enviroment for our cats.
We'll be kicking off at the new location on Tuesday, March 12 just in time for our expanding Spring Break Hours. First, we visited with a friend from Germany, yet another convert into our crazy-for-cats lifestyle. Second, it was my birthday, which always helps infuse every activity with a festive air.
